The intermediate committee meeting [13.07.2023] conducted online. The committee was briefed on the H.EL.M.E.T. progress within the first half of 2023 and the outcome of the event conducted in Greece on 22.06.2023, where more than 30 shipping companies participated with a view to learn more about H.EL.M.E.T. 

The members discussed about H.EL.M.E.T. next activities and decided to;  

• Promote the Voyage, Port/ Terminal Experience survey by also contacting Manning Agencies and other shipping organizations and also share the survey through LinkedIn channel;  
• Present the results of the survey to INTERCARGO Members;  

• Focus on H.EL.M.E.T. twelve (12) Elements and form ‘working groups’, with a view to group the questions per Element and create bunches of questions, which shall be linked with the applicable H.EL.M.E.T. levels. The first results of this process will be presented by the end of October 2023.  

Prevention at Sea and the Chairman of the H.EL.M.E.T. Committee Captain Panagiotis Nikiteas presented the H.EL.M.E.T. concept and methodology to dry bulk shipping Companies showing the ‘path’ to safe business, continuous compliance, and DryBMS excellence. The event was hosted at the MARAN DRY MANAGEMENT premises auditorium.  The maritime bulk sector was well represented at the event where a fruitful discussion took place between the presenters and the audience regarding the unique contribution & innovation of the H.EL.M.E.T. assessment tool and how it can assist the dry bulk shipping companies to ensure compliance with the rules, meeting industry standards, and achieving continuous compliance, improvement and excellence.

We are delighted to announce the new H.EL.M.E.T. committee member for 2023, Captain Daniele Badalucco.  Our new member is the Head of HSEQ & Company Security Officer at Interorient Marine Services Ltd based in Cyprus. He is a certified Master Mariner and OHS professional with extensive experience in ship management and management systems.  He served at sea for 11 years, mainly on chemical & oil tankers.  In 1999, he started his shore career, working for few ship management companies based in Europe, Singapore and Qatar.  Since 2005 holding various HSEQ managerial positions and functions, including HSEQ & Marine Manager, DPA. and CSO.  An active member of Nautical Institute (AFNI), Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (Tech IOSH) and Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (FIMarEST).
